Just One Serving, And Keep Delivery Cheap: Why GrabFood-For-One Is Made For SINKS

I just started out working as a fresh graduate. I can say that working is somehow a lonely thing. Beyond the team meetings and brainstorming sessions, most of the time work requires independence. We plan our meals independently, especially on days when everyone has something to work on or we are rushing a deadline. Therefore, when GrabFood launched its Food-For-One service, I couldn’t be more excited. Suddenly I had so many food options I could consider for lunch, as well as dinner. I didn’t need to look for a buddy to share the food delivery costs, and I could eat within my budget on days when I am feeling indulgent. The truth is, for many of us, eating alone isn’t about being sad or lonely. It’s just reality. Students living away from home, remote workers in a new city, people in long-distance relationships, or those who simply enjoy their me-time. All of these are valid. And honestly, not everyone has the energy (or the fridge space) to deal with leftovers just to chase a discount.Say no to food wastageBefore the GrabFood-For-One feature came along, food promos on delivery apps often felt like a puzzle. Discounts only applied if I spent enough. But if you lived in a small room or studio flat without a fridge, storing leftovers simply wasn’t a realistic option. You tried to save money, only to waste food in the end. If not, then be prepared to bear expensive delivery costs all on your own if you order single serving and cannot meet the minimum order threshold for affordable delivery fees.Food-For-One is for us, the ‘Single Income, No Kids’ (SINKS)GrabFood-For-One isn’t about “cheering up the single people”, it’s a practical response to needs that have long been overlooked. You can easily find this feature by opening the Grab app and tapping on the Food service, and then selecting the “Food-For-One" banner. From there, you’ll see a wide range of single-serving meals, all under $12, delivery included. Just pick a dish, proceed to checkout, and confirm your order. The delivery time can also be selected. For me, I usually order early so that I can select the cheapest delivery fee (that has a longer waiting time). Payment will be made via the app, and there are many methods available, such as credit cards. You can also track your order “live”, which is another great feature of the app. This helps me to plan my activities around my meals better instead of just sitting around and waiting for the delivery. What used to require ordering for multiple people just to get a “cheaper” deal, now allows you to order for one and still get fair value. No complicated conditions, no trick discounts, and no mountain of leftovers sitting on your table. And the ones who benefit the most? That’s us, SINKS (Single Income, No Kids). Whether you’re a student living on a budget, a freelancer working from home, or just prefer to eat alone. Solo living: Not a phase, but a choiceMany still see solo living as a temporary phase, a stage before marriage, family, or “settling down”. But for some of us, it’s our lifestyle. A feature like GrabFood-For-One isn’t just about meals. It’s a sign that the system is starting to recognise that solo lifestyles also deserve to be supported. For us, eating solo is a routine. And this feature just makes it all feel more reasonable: simpler, more cost-effective, and more aligned with how we actually live. No more feeling like something’s missing just because your life doesn’t come in pairs.
